The English Literature and Drama Association is an organization established in 2011 by a number of non-native English speakers and supported by volunteer native English speaking tutors. The objective is to help members to ‘learn English through English Literature and doing drama’, and subsequently, to enhance their English proficiency.

Each week, members will take turns to read through passages from a pre-selected book together. In the event of a mispronunciation or other problems with the text, the native English speaker will make any necessary corrections. Content, themes and use of written English techniques and devices will be discussed. This will then be followed by a supervised group discussion where we will decide on an essay topic.

A play will also be chosen each year and directed by our volunteer drama teacher. Members can volunteer to play different characters or be the director’s assistant for the play. The play might be filmed so that members can later watch a playback of their performance. This would help them to assess their use of English and make the necessary improvements. At the end of the year, the organization will arrange the play to perform in public.

Poetry reading and discussion will also be held once a month.
